**Talbert House Corrections Service Line** Core Correctional Practices are approaches staff should utilize with participants. Research shows, if implemented properly, Core Correctional Practices can reduce recidivism by teaching participants how to engage in long-term prosocial behavior. UCCI has developed a formalized training protocol to instruct staff on these skills and their support of cognitive- behavioral programming. CCPs are relevant to direct care, security staff, and treatment staff. Specific topics addresses in training include: the principles of effective intervention, core correctional practices (relationships skills, effective use of reinforcement, effective use of disapproval, effective use of authority, prosocial modeling, cognitive restructuring, social skills training and problem solving skills), principles of effective behavior management system, and implementation of CCP. Further, Coaches and Trainers protocols have been developed to support both staff and agency sustainability of proficiency, quality, and ongoing implementation. |

***This is for Talbert House staff only*** The UCCI curriculum training covers the Core Adult, Adult Substance Use and Employment curriculum. All participants will be trained on Core Adult. The fifth day [12/15/25] will be specific to either employment or substance use. Staff only needing Core Adult will be finished on day 4. UCCI’s Cognitive-Behavioral Interventions – Core Adults (CBI-CA) curriculum is designed for people involved with the criminal justice system who are at moderate to high risk for reoffending. The use of the terms “risk, risky, or high risk” within this program refers to a propensity to reoffend. In partnership with the Bureau of Justice Assistance and Council of State Governments, the University of Cincinnati Corrections Institute (UCCI) developed this curriculum. This curriculum can be delivered as a stand-alone curriculum or incorporated into larger programs, particularly those designed for people in the corrections system with or without mental illness. As the name of the curriculum suggests, this intervention relies on a cognitive-behavioral approach to teach people strategies for identifying and managing risk factors. This program places heavy emphasis on skill building activities to assist with cognitive, social, emotional, and coping skill development. The following sections briefly describe the primary theories from which the curriculum is based. Additionally, program and facilitator strategies are detailed for successful implementation of the group. These include group facilitation strategies that can be used for the day-to-day management of the group, as well as program and agency level implementation strategies. UCCI’s Cognitive-Behavioral Interventions – Employment Adult (CBI-EA) curriculum is designed for people involved with the criminal justice system who are at moderate to high need in the area of employment. The use of the terms risk, risky or high risk within this program can refer to a propensity to reoffend or experience employment difficulties. The University of Cincinnati Corrections Institute (UCCI) developed this curriculum. This curriculum can be delivered as a stand-alone curriculum or incorporated into larger programs, particularly those designed for people in the corrections system. As the name of the curriculum suggests, this intervention relies on a cognitive-behavioral approach to teach people strategies for identifying and managing high risk situations related to obtaining and maintaining employment. This program places heavy emphasis on skill building activities to assist with cognitive, social, emotional, and coping skill development. UCCI’s Cognitive-Behavioral Interventions - Substance Use Adult (CBI-SUA) curriculum is designed for people involved with the criminal justice system who are at moderate to high need in the area of substance abuse. The use of the terms “risk, risky or high risk” within this program refers to a propensity to reoffend.
